I probably don’t fit the norm. I shoot once or twice a week. The range is to close not too. I open the back door and walk out to the back fence and blasé away. ;D I may shoot one or two clips or I may shoot 100 rounds. Before someone jumps my case I own 100 ac and have built a backstop from Railroad ties and poles, backed up by dirt. But the noise sure do keep folks jumping. Plus it sure does beat watching TV.

Confession time: I manage a gun store and indoor range and the only times I shoot are when I need to test fire somebody's gun or a trade in...Just too busy I guess...I always advise anybody that carries to practice on a regular basis...So I guess the bottom line is: do as I say and not as I do...Ben

Any amount from 100 to 500 every week plus the wife as well.We also do it from sitting, standing, car ect, since she is a armed security gaurd. She just hates the weak hand days ;D,due to the fact that I have 1 hand and don't do it.So just dont do it standing mix it up.And I like Bigfoot have a private range so I pratice ,pratice as well as my wife.I hate to lose her but I feel better knowing that when it happens she was ready for any thing and can, will, shoot with expert quality.

Re:? for guys with C.C.P

I'm lucky to get out more than every couple of months. Used to be able to shoot in the backyard, but development has cured that.
Shot IPSC a long time ago, when street leather and near factory guns were common. Good practice and a way to learn where the buttons are on a 1911 quick, but the courses of fire could get a little unreasonable (3 targets @ 3 yds., double tap each in the head, reload, do it again. When the hell are you going to see that one?!?!). What was amazing was the number of guys that made dumb mistakes under just the pressure of the timer. Pappyman hit on it earlier; shooting is just part of handling a handgun. Being able to acquire the weapon, operate all it's controls, not just the trigger, keep it stoked, clear it when jammed, fire out of position, weak hand etc. Lot to do. That's what training is for.
Also, staying out of situations where you might need any of this ain't a bad idea, and I don't see run like hell as cowardice if it's an exercisable option.
To answer the other part: I don't carry constantly, but will if I'm at work late (not bad neighborhood, not good either) and other such times. House is pretty well set up though. I worry more about break ins and such than problems out and about.
Another problem is I travel a lot out of state; how about a national carry permit? I'd feel better to be able to carry a handgun when I travel legally (I don't do so now, but do feel a little behind the curve carrying a pocket knife.) I feel most nervous on long road trips to strange areas, as opposed to where I work and live.
It's late, I'm rambling,
Rob

Federal law say's the States have to honor each others laws, as a rule if you are licensed to carry in one state, you won't be hassled about it in another.

However, that stands true only if you don't give them a reason to want to hassle you over it. Brandishing a firearm anywhere is Illegal, if you pull it out you better be darn ready to answer for it, no matter where you are.

If you get caught out of State carrying and have commited another infraction that got you noticed in the first place, their is a strong chance that charge will be added to it.

In my case, I carry most of the time, and especially when going into areas I do not know. I realize this is a risk, but frankly I would rather be caught with the firearm by Law Enforcemant, than to be caught without it in a dangerous situation.

Re:? for guys with C.C.P

I shoot alot more than most. I compete in IPSC/USPSA matches 3 saturdays a month. I am the president of a large local shooting range and the new home I just built has a shooting range 100 away from my back door. In the winter I shoot 800-1200 rounds a month and in the summer when getting ready for nationals I shoot as much as 2400 rounds a month.

With all this said, I don't shoot the guns I carry even close to 500 rounds a year. This isn't enough to keep an edge if I was knowingly going into harms way with these guns. I for one never want to use a gun in defence but on the other hand never want to be with out it and watch someone go down and not be with out my gun.

I truely have alot of fun shooting compitition and if I ever have to defend myself or another person alot of my fun would be gone.

Get good enough to be able to hit with your gun(s) of choice with the ammo your going to carry and then practice as much as you can afford to(time and money) and above all else be safe.....

I usually make it to the range a couple of times a month.

At the range at least once a week. I shoot in a league every Tuesday night, 30 rnds each of rimfire and centerfire. Shoot a match (rifle or pistol) about once or twice a month. Got a two week period comming up where I'll be on the range all day every day.

Boy do I love the smell of burnt powder. ;D ;D
Might have created a "Monster"
My 22 year old daughter just asked if she could go with me next time I go to the range. ;D
Hey Wifey........Daughter needs "her own" gun now....lessee....maybe a nice Colt .357, or maybe a Sig, or even a "lowly" 1911....the possibilities are endless......

Re:? for guys with C.C.P

I am going to jump in here. In Indiana all that is needed is not to be a felon and not have any domestic disturbance offenses. That and a little $ will get you finger prints on paper and a little pink card that gives you the right to carry concealed if you pass the back ground check. I have mine and only carry concealed if the family and I or out in a bigger city or questionable area late. I always have a Ruger p90 .45acp in the truck with a back up clip next to it. We had our first drive by in our small town that prompted the side arm in the truck at all times. I shoot my long gun almost every day; the .45 gets worked 1 to three times a month. Give this a try guys if you have not already. Next time your at the range place your index finger down the side of your weapon and put your middle finger on the trigger. You may be surprised at how accurately you can point your finger. Point your finger at the target (don’t aim) and squeeze the trigger with your middle finger. I can do this +- an inch of where I think I am pointing and hold a tight group. Plenty good for a close quarter, emergency center of mass shot.
