Dumpster Dragging Nationals (long)
Dumpster Dragging Nationals (long)
I ended up working this Sunday along with a few other guys. We work construction and because it was Father's Day, there were not a lot of people around the subdivision we were in.
This subdivision is just a loop of about a 100 houses under construction and everyone one of them has a dumpster in front of them. These dumpsters are 8 feet wide by 5 feet tall by 16 feet long.
We all got into a bull session about trucks and such and the idea came up to see who could pull a dumpster the farthest. For trucks, we had my 02 CTD, a 93 CTD, an 03 DMax, 2 03 6.0 Strokes, a 00 7.3 Stroke and last but not least, an 03 Quad cab 1500 Hemi. All the trucks are 4 wheel drive except for the Hemi.
We found the "fullest" dumpster we could and added a bunch of crap to it for good measure. Not sure how much it weighed, but it was heaped with lumber and such.
All the trucks are stock except mine, they know mine is modified.
So the pulloff begins and the results are:

03 Dmax 437 ft
93 CTD 55 ft and explodes a tranny ( 321,000 km's on it and dieing)
03 6.0 auto didn't move it!!!! He has been having tranny problems
03 6.0 6spd 340 ft then truck shut down
03 Hemi 65 ft smoke show all the way
Me half way around the loop (maybe 1000 ft?) EGT's got real big!!!
00 7.3 about 100 ft behind me (900 Ft?)

Because the Hemi was involved, we agreed to use 2 wheel drive only to make it fair
We were a little suprised with the results. The Dmax wouldn't stay in low gear, it kept wanting to upshift. We told him to shift it manually but he didn't. Both the 6.0's made some god awful noises while grunting (or in the case of the auto, trying to grunt). The 6spd started right up after shutting down. Do they have a fail safe or something built in? The 7.3 was a 5spd, so keeping it in low was not a problem. He moved over a bit on his pull and got into a little debris and spun the one tire, that's what stopped him otherwise I'm sure he would have kept on going. 93 CTD was on it's last legs tranny wise, but made some nice smoke till the tranny puked. He has another one, was just waiting for the original to die. The Hemi was the coolest of them all. He just yanked the bin at the start and smoked them like a Top Fuel car doing a burnout!!!! 20 inch Goodyears make cool smoke. Mine was just low gear in the 6spd and go. The smoke was very impressive!! Pulled the fuel pressure down to 2 lbs at the end, that's why I stopped. I could have kept going but didn't want to kill the thing.
When I plumbed my FP guage, I put in an idiot light that comes on at 5 lbs FP so I don't have to watch the guage. Out of the corner of my eye, I can see the light come on and I know when I look at the guage, I'll see dropping FP.
All in all, we had a blast, didn't get a whole lot done work wise. I'm sure there will be some head scratching tommorrow because of the bins being moved around as well as the long burnout marks on the pavement as well as an oil slick where the 93 puked his tranny. Tommorrow night we are changing a tranny.

Just thought I'd let you guys in on a little fun we had today. There is going to be a rematch when the 6.0's are running better

Great story Homestead!
Are ya'll thinking about making this an annual event?
Shucks,,,,,,,, you could get the dumpster company, some tire stores, maybe a transmission shop or two, plus the construction company to be sponsors and give out trophies. What a great idea! ;D

I did something like that one night and I think Beer was involved. Mine involved pulling the dumpster down the hill from the Church and placing it in front of my buddies driveway at 3:00am Sunday morning.
Needless to say everyone that went to Church that moring knew where the dumpster came from.

The payback for that one way reeeeeeeeeeeal bad.

The bin guy was a little choked yesterday. We managed to move a bunch of them around. :
There were a few comments about "someone having some fun around here" ;D

I wanted to ask him how much he figured our "sled" wieghed but figured it would give it away as to who made the mess.

Hey SuperiorDiesel, we just chained the bin to each truck with about a 20 foot length of chain. Each bin has a lift loop on the front and we just went from there to each trucks tow hitch. Not scientific, but it worked. Now we are thinking about doing it again real soon. We have found a few more trucks that are interested in our "pull off" 8)

I'll let you know!

screw sled pulls! They are too far and few between! I am going to start a Texas Chapter for Dumpster pulls in my new neighborhood.. I got a good ¼ mile strip one street over... I am sure we could earn extra brownie points with the homeowner's association! ;D Oh well, just a thought...
