Do the crime, do the time

The individual in this story stole tons of billions of dollars from his company and hid his crimes from investors. He also happens to be 80 years old and in bad health. The judge gave him a 15 year sentence, saying it should have been more harsh, but he took into account the defendants age and health. I say so what!!! He was healthy enough and of sound mind enough to commit a crime, he should be sentenced the full amount. (Yes, at his age, I do understand that a 15 year sentence probably is a life sentence, nonetheless....)

Story Here

Didn't read the story, but like you said, a 15 year sentence is pretty much a life sentence for him. What more do you want? How many other white collar crimes will land you in jail for life? None that I know of.

I was looking at what the judge handed down (15 years) versus what the prosecutors were after (215 years).

I understand that....but he basically got a life sentence even with just 15 years. I'm not sure what more you could ask for unless you want him to get the chair. The man is 80 years old and has cancer and heart trouble as it is, so he'll die in prison. Sentencing him to 215 years wouldn't really have accomplished anything that sentencing him to 15 years won't.

I suppose...but I don't really see how he got special treatment in this case. Whether he got 15 years or 215 years he'll still spend the rest of his life in prison.

His son only got 20 years and was convicted of the same crimes, I agree with you Hotdram the sentences should have been much stiffer, it’s the only hope of deterring this kind of thing
