Chevy S10 tranny problems
Chevy S10 tranny problems
Hi folks!
I've got asked by a guy who's got the following problem. He's got a Chevy S10 (not the problem
) and this vehicle doesn't have any engine braking. When going down a mountain it will freewheel in all gears. Acceleration is ok, shiftpoints too but only on downhill slopes it will run away. He has to drive over a mountain daily to get to work and hates the thought of the 1500 ft altitude difference in one slope he's got to pass.
Anybody got an idea as to what to look for etc? Schematics of the tranny ?
Thanks

Can't remember what it's called but I had a similar problem once and my particular model of transmission for that year had a plastic accumulator piston. ( that's what it's called!) My transmission guy told me over the phone what the problem was. I took it in and in less that 1/2 hour he drained the fluid, serviced the trans, put in a metal piston, and sent me on my way. $120 Sounds like the same problem although it's a different trans. Mine was a TH400
It does it with the lever in any position- even if you pull it to 1 it will freewheel down the slopes.
Do you know by chance if the OD freewheeling is activated electrically?
