Angry Carjacked

Hello, this is my first post. I thought I would share a horrible story with you. Those of you in Souther Cal. probobly saw this on the news. On friday May 6 my 6 y/o son and I were carkacked at knife point in a parking lot. Two men took my baby, a 97 2500 4x4 extra cab and proceded to lead the police on a chase that spanned 3 counties at 100+ miles per hour. A spike strip was deployed and they drove for several miles on the steal rims, only to roll the truck 6 times down a hillside in the end.
I know, we are very thankful we weren't hurt. But now that it's had a few days to digest I just can't believe its gone. Now I will probobly get to be a victim once again at the hands of my insurance co.
By the way my truck had the last laugh as one of the guys was ejected as it rolled and was crushed by it.

Man, that sucks. I don't understand people who think they can get away with stuff like this. I guess it's because I'm a rational person, but still. Sorry to hear about your loss, but as you stated at least neither you nor your child were hurt. I don't know what I'd do if someone tried to steal my truck from me. I'd like to think I'd hand it over in that situation, but I might just snap if I didn't have a kid or a woman with me.

At least you and family are allright. As far as the guy getting crushed, oh well, elimination of the dumbest. Good thing they didn't hurt/kill anyone else during the chase.

Glad all are OK. Too bad about your truck, but it can be replaced.

As far as the guy getting crushed....he asked for it. He won't have the chance to maybe hurt his next victum.

What would I do? I don't know, but my mind set says if he only has a knife, I have a 44 real handy.

Welcome to DTR.....Not exactly a typical 1st post! ....that is horrible! ......I'm very glad to hear you and your son are fine....as it has been said the truck is replacable - you and your family are not. It is good to see a higher power applied some swift justice to that scum....Hopefully the other scum is seriously injured and won't have the chance to hurt anyone again. I don't wish that kind of fate on anyone but I'm willing to make exceptions to that from time to time!

I had thoughts of defending my property, believe me. But the sight of someone holding a knife to my childs chest made my choice very easy. As far as the 44 someone mentioned, there just would't have been a chance, it went down way to fast.
As far as replacing my truck, I can only hope. Has anyone had experience totaling one? Did you get replacement value? Anyone out there have a nice one for sale?

911DAD, start collecting any reciepts that you can find to show how much more valuable it was compared to a stock truck. And if they give you a low price, contest it. my 2 cents...

Permits in Calif, almost impossible. But in Texas, we were lining up for um. It solved almost all of our car jacking problems. One look at my chrome, most will decide like wise. But with the family in tow, I may just have to hand it over if the situation does'nt favor me having the upper hand.

You are very right......the choice was clear....your boy comes first.....there is no way defending your property at the potential risk of your son's life would make any sense! How is your boy doing? It must be difficult for him to make sense of what happened...

I think that most people with fantasies of pulling out their CCW just can't imagine the surprise and the speed at which events like this happen. I think if you were carrying a weapon, the only chance you might have is when they finally released you and your boy and moved to get in the truck. At that point though, since you've been technically released, I'm not sure about the legalities of putting a bullet in the back of their heads as they get in.. Sure is an alluring pipe dream though isn't it? The guy jacks you and your kid and you get to put a bullet in his head... Ahh fantasies.

911 DAD I'm so happy you guys weren't hurt. Now you have a good excuse to get a 3rd gen

Glad your ok, you did the right thing. If you'd have attempted to draw, you might live to regret it in that particular situation. It's just a truck. Just smile and think of the "poetic justice" when your waxing the NEW one. Good lesson for the boy on de-escalating the situation too. Macho doesn't stop a knife.
