Glad you come away unhurt. As far as letting them take a material posession versus taking action. You did the right thing. Even if you had a gun chances are you might have been able to get one guy but are you willing to risk your sons life that you can get them both? Shooting someone while they are fleeing will only get you in hot water.

Hope you come out ok with thr insurence, keep us posted.

Hello, this is my first post. I thought I would share a horrible story with you. Those of you in Souther Cal. probobly saw this on the news. On friday May 6 my 6 y/o son and I were carkacked at knife point in a parking lot. Two men took my baby, a 97 2500 4x4 extra cab and proceded to lead the police on a chase that spanned 3 counties at 100+ miles per hour. A spike strip was deployed and they drove for several miles on the steal rims, only to roll the truck 6 times down a hillside in the end.
I know, we are very thankful we weren't hurt. But now that it's had a few days to digest I just can't believe its gone. Now I will probobly get to be a victim once again at the hands of my insurance co.
By the way my truck had the last laugh as one of the guys was ejected as it rolled and was crushed by it.
You do realize that you have the greatest story ever to tell your grandchildren, right?
(Especially if you can get any of the chase footage on filmver; I don't know how possible that is...)

Now you just have to start slowly adding the details that you and your family can relish for generations...

Glad to hear that you and your Son are o.k. With regards to the insurance, each State is governed by its own set of insurance laws, but most Companies in most States do not offer full replacement cost on vehicles. The theory behind insurance is to put the customer back into the same position that they were prior to the loss, so most policies pay the actual cash value (book value). If they paid replacement cost, every crook in the State would intentionally total their vehicle after a few years and get a new one. I would recommend doing a search in the local papers or on the internet to try to find 3 trucks for sale that are very similar to yours. If you feel that the Insurance Company's book value is off, you can use the value of the trucks that you found as a bargaining tool. Good luck.

911Dad. Would this be the accident that was on the 15 south between Mission and Pala Rds? Saw the traffice when i was getting on the 15 NB at Mission heading up to Temecula. Sorry to hear about the truck. And glad to hear that you are both doing fine. Trucks can be replaced, family and loved ones can't.

Sorry to hear about your loss but glad everyone is ok. As far as how much you will get from the insurance company, you should get retail. I totaled my 03 and they told me that they call local dealers and ask how much it would sell for on thier lot and that is how they come up with a price. They can't go by blue book anymore. Any way that was my experiance.
As far as shooting him guys, thats what we would like to do but if you are not in fear of your life you better not shoot. If you are in fear of losing your life shoot and then call a lawyer. It has been descussed a lot on gun forums and the best thing in that situation is to tell the police that you will cooperate but wish not to make a statement until a layer is present. You would be supprised at how an innocent statement can be twisted.

USTA Hava Hemi, I agree with what you just said, if the boy had not been in danger it would have been different. I have a CCW and hope I never have to use it. But if someone would pull a knife on me, well...that would be his problem, after all, Who Brings a Knife to a Gun Fight?

I was driving up the 15 and was almost run off the road by CHP as I was doing 80 on cruise. I exited Mission Rd. in Fallbrook and 3 more cops were haulin **** towards the freeway. I was at a friends house and telling them of what I saw and an then I started getting phone calls. Your truck looks a lot like mine on live TV and a few of my friends/family called to see if it was mine that crashed, rolled, and crushed an occupant at the Fallbrook exit.
I saw it on the news that night and chuckled...... but I now feel sorry for that and am glad you and your family were not harmed and only the truck was lost. The insurance co may suprise you.....

Rescue personnel work on a carjacking suspect who was ejected from a white pickup truck when it rolled over four times off Interstate 15.
FALLBROOK – Two men suspected of stealing an SUV in Los Angeles County were captured Friday after a second vehicle they allegedly carjacked in San Bernardino County crashed off Interstate 15 in Fallbrook, authorities said.

The pursuit began at Lake Los Angeles about 3 p.m., when a 2005 Chevy Avalanche was reported stolen, said Sgt. Adam Ellison of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Lancaster Station.

Officers were able to find the sport utility vehicle by its satellite positioning system and the chase began.

Deputies pursued the suspects eastbound on the State Route 138 into San Bernardino County, where the Avalanche crashed, Ellison said.

The suspects then carjacked a pickup truck from a man who was unharmed, he said.

Deputies kept following the pickup truck until the California Highway Patrol took over in the Ontario area, he said.

Weaving in and out of traffic and on the shoulder, and with the two right-side wheels shredded by a spike strip, the truck continued through the Riverside area into northern San Diego County.

The vehicle was going more than 90 mph for most of the highway patrol's 40-minute pursuit, said officer Larry Landeros, a patrol spokesman.

Southbound Interstate 15 traffic is held at a standstill after carjacking suspects who were being pursued by California Highway Patrol officers crashed the pickup they were in.
The chase ended about 4:45 p.m. near Mission Road in Fallbrook, when the pickup careered off southbound Interstate 15 and rolled over four times as it went down a hillside.

In the televised chase, one suspect appeared to have been partially ejected and the truck may have rolled over him before he came all the way out of the vehicle.

When the crumpled truck came to rest in a clump of brush, the other suspect then jumped out and tried to run down the hill, stumbling and falling. Within minutes, officers arrested him at gunpoint.

Officers also handcuffed the other man, though he appeared to be unconscious and was taken away in a helicopter ambulance
