B3.3 Cummins in s10
If been kicking the idea around about putting a b3.3 in my s10. Is there even a tranny that will bolt up to that motor....? Any ideas on the prodject would be awesome. Its a 2003 s10 so it might be difficult with all the electronics on it. Thanks for any suggestions...

The Cummins 3.3 4BT engines were used alot in step vans, bread trucks, etc. Many of which used adapters which mated them to a GM, T400 transmission. This means a T350, 700 R-4, 4L80E, Powerglide just to name a few would also work. The 4BT engines are heavier than even the 4.3 V-6 which was the largest S-10 engine available, so aftermarket V8 swap front coil springs would be needed as well. The electonics shouldn't be too much of an issue because the gas burners fuel injection and ignition computer will be a thing of the past. Having owned several S-10's over the years I think it would be a good swap if done right.

The B3.3 series is different than the 3.9 4BT engine and is not compatible with any of the adapters made for the 4BT/6BT engines. If you look at my thread on putting a B3.3T into a jeep YJ and the adapters used this may help you somewhat.

I have put a small block in a 97 sonoma and I can tell you the best thing to do is to pull every wire out of that thing, I mean every wire. get yourself a painless wiring harness, the 18 circuit one and a set of aftermarket gauges to replace the stock set. the only gauge that will work after the swap is the volts gauge. everything else goes through the computer. get a fuel cell and run all new fuel lines too because the stockers are no good for diesel, and the gauge sending unit is probably different not to mention the pump.
the stock shifter is easy to adapt to a TH350.

It's one of their currently produced small industrial/ag engines. It was a joint effort with Komatsu. They are used in all sorts of things from skid loaders to tractors to generators to boat engines . . .

Kellen, do you have a 2wd or 4x4 S10? I've been wanting to do this same swap for over a year, recently bought a house with a shop big enough to do it.
Trouble is I can't fit the engine in my 2wd without doing a body lift.
I want to have a 40+mpg S10 so doing a body lift is kinda counterproductive.
Modifying the cross member might be an option but I'd rather make a bolt in kit. Finding a 4x4, ditching the front axle and replacing it with a custom made cross-member is the approach I'd like to take, just having trouble finding a 4x4 with a blown motor and decent body and a 5-speed (kind of a long shot).
I plan on using a Phoenix Casting SAE to Chevy 350 adapter (or possibly make my own to save some length) to mate the engine to the stock S10 NV3500 tranny. The NV3500 is rated at near (210?) the 215 ft-lb max of the B3.3
