Anybody have experience with vinyl wrap?

Well, the bad news about dating a woman with an overly protective father is that you get red Diesel dumped into your tank.

The good news comes when the woman works for a printing company and can get you a custom printed vinyl wrap for free.

(The stuff that I'm thinking about getting applied is the same stuff that's on the Suburban in the middle of their banner. Only not over the windows and covering the entire vehicle's exterior.)

It sounds like a great idea to me. For only $700 dollars worth of installation I can get my truck coated in a space-age polymer that looks like anything I want; I can also apply it over my crappy stock "paint" and it will cover up all of the little dents and blemishes in my surface. (I would still have to pound out one big dent and re-hang my door, but I figure that I can manage doing that myself...)

But before I take the plunge, does anybody have any experience with this stuff? Does it last very long at all without fading, falling off or bubbling? How does the texture of the stuff once it's applied compare to paint?

I figure that somebody probably has the stuff on a company van or bus or some such. Longetivity is my main concern. Thanks for any help.

So, are you gonna get a flame job or go camo?

I used to work for a bus company that had buses wrapped for advertising. I never saw the wrap falling off or faded, but most of them got re-wrapped every few months to change ads. It has a good shine (if you want it shiny).

Well, that looks pretty darn good.

It looks good sitting in a garage right after it's applied, anyway. I'm just afraid that I'll get something awesome looking, then look like a stupid looser after it deteriorates after a while. There's a three year warranty, for what that's worth.

Stuff is very durable and is good for 5 years if installed correctly. I have been told Arizona & Nevada is the toughest area for longevity.
Residue is removable with alcohol and the unit it is being applied to also gets wiped down with alcohol in preparation before being wrapped.
I have seen really good jobs, looked like paint & really bad jobs with bad wrinkles & and poor fit around the fender edges..
Just be sure the technican been around a while.

Have you checked this out?

Looks like this one isn't taking any new applications, but there are other comapnies like them.

I already got the vinyl for free, I just need to design and install it.

That site has a really good gallery, I just figure that there has to be a reason that you don't see more cars wearing this stuff.

But I won't hesitate taking the plunge if nobody comes up with anything bad to say about it. I'm currently thinking of getting the entire truck covered in candy-coated flames, like the jet car from Monster Garage, but instead of putting yellow and black in the flames make them really subtle shades of red... Kind of like red ghost flames on a red truck. I was also thinking of putting a turkey on the hood by accenting the flames with yellow in the shape of the little sketch on my avatar, and then having "The Incubator" written under my bed rails in large yellow writting. I can also write whatever I want on the tailgate and roof, so that's a good thing.

I don't know, anybody else have any ideas? (Other than covering the entire vehicle in DTR propaganda... )

Work "touch my truck and die" into the design somewhere.

One suggestion. I think some smartaleck tagger just might cross out "Incu" and replace it with "Master". Just looking out for you.
