The plastic bottle thing does work for a few rounds. We were fooling around when I was in college, heated the top of a plastic coke bottle with a lighter and formed it around the end of a ruger .22/45 pistol I have. Oh, we stuffed a bunch of paper towel strips in it first. Then duct taped it on and shot a whole magazine through it, sounded about as loud as someone clapping their hands. Got progressively louder the more you shot it. Probably wouldn't do much for accuracy though.

Thanks for the sugestions guys, I'll check those out for sure. Might be nice to have a decent little air rifle around anyway.

Seems as most of the ones I have looked at for sale around here are only 450 fps which I don't think is going to pack enough punch to take out crows.
I think back to when I was a kid running around with air rifles trying to take out pigeons and watching the pellets literally bounce off of them.

I'll see what else I can find locally.

I've shot many, but I currently have a RWS 48 in .177. Zips a dome pellet out at almost 1000 fps at the muzzle (according to my chronograph). A solid hit should put a crow out of commission.

My personal favorite is the .17 HMR, very effective on unwanted critters, but probably alittle loud for what you want to do.

I've dropped many a critter with my Crossman CO2 pistol. Useful in city locations where anything larger would draw unwanted attention.

Ive got a benjamin sheriden .177 cal rifle. Its an eight pumper and shoots 800 fps, I got it online remanufactured for 66 bucks plus shipping!! Been very reliable, I lost seal in it and then fixed it, other than that its been great, Ive probly shot 2000-3000 rounds thru it, and it takes out birds and small rodents pretty good.

I can't seem to find anything around here over 500 FPS. Thinking they may be only available for purchase from firearm vendors and maybe need a permit for high velocity air rifles around here???

Can you B.O.M.B. Your air rifle to get more velocity???

I don't think 500 FPS @ .177 cal. will take out crows will it?

Yeah it will

but not at a very far distance.... and ud have to hit them right in the chest, wheras with a 800 fps or higher velocity rifle even their wings wont stop them from dropping.. I would look at an academy sporting goods store for a benjamin sheridan, or buy the shadow gamo 1000 at wally world..

I have not heard of bombing an airrifle to get more velocity, you can get those multipumps and pump em more than waht is required but u only damage the seals.

try the link www.cheaperthandirt.com, it has many airrifles at good prices, or www.academy.com

I have one of each of these, AWESOME!

I was cruising through Wally world last night and I think it was a gamo, but it said that it shot at 1,000fps. I think it was like $130 or so.

Check out http://www.compasseco.com/
I have a Tech Force 99S that is a .22 cal at 900 fps. It can knock a squirrel out of the tree at over 50 yards, or so I've been told...

Just got one of these http://www.airgundepot.com/win1000x.html for the same purpose. I'll tell you what. That rifle will take down even the biggest rabbit. I'm impressed so far. It's straight and fast.
