92 d250 gas low oil pressure
92 d250 gas low oil pressure
My oil pressure never gets past the 25% mark on the gauge. It doesnt seem to smoke at all but after about 20 minutes of hiway speeds i can here a tapping.
It could be a manifold gasket Im not sure. Would it be a good idea to replace the oil pump? What about the "high flow" pumps, would one of those be advisable?

If you don't have one I would put a mechanical guage on it first. Mine had real low pressure on the factory guage and my oil light would come on then I put on a mechanical guage and saw that the pressure is fine, 60psi cold and 35-40 at highway speed. The factory sending units are junk in my opinion. For the tapping issue have you adjust the valves lately that might fix that problem.
I put mine right above the oil filter and ran the line into the cab, or you can take the original sending unit out and put it in there. It is the piece that sticks out of the block on the driver side between the cab and the VE pump with one single wire coming off of it.
If the oil pressure is going down low, the hyd. lifters will start making a lot of noise and give a warning that the oil pressure is getting low, that may be the noise you are hearing. There is more than likely there is enought oil pressure for the bearings and no damage has taken place, but needs to fixed now. I would install a oil pressure gauge like was said before, to find what is really going on.

I would hate to ask a stupid question but have you checked the oil level? I have a 383 big block and when you would accelerate you would here pinging. Come to find out that the oil level was low. Also you might have collapsed lifters and that would make the pressure low too I think.
OD issue again.
I thought I had the proble solved but its not working again. Now i have hooked a wire from the pcm ground to a test light.. The Light stays on till the truck reaches od speed then goes out, When i slow down to a stop the light comes back on.. The hot wire comes on with the key and stays on.. So I assume the od solenoid is getting juce. What about the tranny fluid pressure?
I dont know if that has anything to do with the od.
