2001 in tank fuel pump ?
Sorry guys it' a GMC gasser. My bad.
Anyone here change one yet? Have to help my brother. I told him I would do it. The dealer wants close to $800. I can get the part for $187 for a Delco true replacement. I haven't done one yet though and wondered if I needed anything special like springlock tools or any other tips.
Thanks.

I've changed 7 over the course of 330,000 miles on my 98.....dealer wants about $700.00.....I took the bed loose......takes 30 min. I've even done it on the road with few tools......no special tools required. Buy you your self a can of Lit. grease for the FP seal......makes it easier.....not a requirement though. I was able to do it alone.

My 98 was a GMC gasser. You may want to have the dealer do it........they had a lifetime replacement when I had mine.......after buying 7 of them ( one for $400.00 on the road-shysters in a small town) it may be worth having the dealer replace it.

That fuel pump should be an entire module assembly. 187 bucks is super cheap for that style, kinda have me wondering. My cost for an AC Delco fuel pump module is about 100 bucks more than that. The module is a complete unit, it comes with a fuel level sensor, isolator, pump and screen, plus updated pig tail, (if needed). The top of the tank loves to collect dirt, so it rots the retainer ring and all the connections forcing the replacement of the entire assembly. That is why they usually come as an entire module.

Forget that pump. Get a Raptor. The pump won't care what brand it's bolted to. Get a draw straw and big line kit. It'll take a little wiring modifications but you won't have to ever worry about it again.

Is the raptor approved for gasoline and can it maintain 55 psi of fuel pressure to run the engine?

Re-read. Gasser. Oooops. But still, with the pump in the tank your forever bound to not having access to it. I would still find an external frame mounted pump, drawstraw and big line kit for it. For some odd reason, pumps you can get to in a snap tend to be trouble free. Pumps buried in a tank or a hole tend to always be troublesome.

Got it done fellas. Never did one before. Had right at two hours in it. Ended up with a Delphi unit for $187 from Amazon. Same part as the Delco but no Delco label. Delphi makes the assembly for Delco though. Dealers and local garages wanted right around $900 to do it including a tow. We pulled the bed off. It was a short box so no big deal. 8 bolts, three screws for the filler neck and 4 connectors for the lights and the bed came right off. Two connectors on the pump, three lines using the plastic spring locks like our trucks fuel line on the tank and the compression ring. Assembly comes right out. New one goes in but you have to wire in a new universal connector. Connect lines and wires, compression ring gets beat back into place then start it and check for leaks. Threw in a new Delco filter along the frame rail while we were at it. Bed went back on he's back in business. Not a bad job at all. Way easier than the FASS on my truck and that isn't even the in tank version.
