Here is my experiences. I say get a high lift jack. It may take some time to get out, but they will work. Just bring enough chain.

Electic/hydraulic-I have had both and I think the people that flame hydro winches just have not tried them. I have owned an 8000 warn and a 6000 warn, well over 10 smaller 2-4000lb winches for atv's and utv's and I have had issues on every one of them except this 4000 warn on my polaris ranger. the winch is 8 months old and used 2 times. Every one of the winches had problems with solenoids going bad or shorting out. Of course every time that they had failed was in a horrible spot and I was crap out of luck. Never in the driveway. When the 8k failed, I purchase a hydro against everyones recommendations. They always told me the motor needed to be running or the power steering would go out using this.

I have 3 hydro winches and the first was bought in 1996 and still used
today. I have had zero issues with it and it has been on a 1992 dakota, 1997 F350 (hence the name) 2002 dodge 2500, and now 2007 dodge 3500. I have one on a 1998 2500 and one on my off road rig. The reason I bring this up is they are simple to hook up. Unhook the hose off the power steering output, hook that to winch with new line, run the other hose to the gear box. Done for the hydro's. Two lines. Takes 10 minutes. The electrical is two wires(16 gauge). The bolt patterns are all the same.

I have never been in a situation where the motor hasnt been running, but I know other probably have. Electric motors seem to fail with the elements. The hydro's have to be sealed or the system will leak. Take it for what it is worth. Plus they are 750 bucks complete from winchesplus.com same price but 100% duty cycle. Not 25%
