you can reuse, but if this is the first time you have done the valves and don't know when it was off last I would without a dought change it. They tend to get dry rotted and cracked and will not seal good.

Your 01 rubber gasket should still be good. I've had mine off twice, once about 3 years ago(valve set), and just last year when I did injectors(and valve set again), and was still in excellent condition then.

Isn't an 01 a 24V and aren't the valves self adjusting?

The normal service interval is 150,000 miles. They are not self adjusting and setting them earlier can some times improve performance. I set mine at 0.008" and 0.016"

The intake valves should be set to .006 to .015 inch clearance, and the exhaust valve lash should be set to .015 to .030 inch.

My recommendation is to set them every three years, and set them to the loose side at about .010 on the intake, and .022 on the exhaust. If you do them every year, then set them as recommended by fschiola and that will give you the best power and economy. They tighten the clearances as they wear.
