trans problem?????

i have a 1994 ram 2500 w/ cummins auto trans.... the problem im haveing is the truck only goes 28 to 30 mph at wide open throttle... the problem started when the planitary gear in the tail of the trans came apart. since i had the trans out and apart i went ahead and replaced everything minus the valve body( took it apart and cleaned it) adjusted the bands to 72 in lbs backed off required amount of turns.... now i never feel it shift unless i pull it down in first at 28 to 30 mph and it chirps the tires and slows down. so im assumeing that its shifting but not gaining speed.... the only code its showing is saying too much or too little voltage at the tps... i need some help

What are the rpms when you are at wide open throttle and 30 mph? Does it feel like it is holding back (like a brake on), or is it not upshifting?

I think the govenor is stuck. You will have to take the OD unit out to get to it.
you must be having 2nd gear starts with no up shift.

I think I'd probably screw a gauge in the GOV PSI TEST PORT and verify before pulling stuff apart.

Excuse me, but you said you rebuilt the trans, and you don't know where the governor is???
You need to have someone looking over your shoulder when you do the first few!!!!
I don't mean to offend you.
Do you even have a book on them? Even JC Whitney sells them!!!!
The best is the factory service manual.

Two metal tubes in the overdrive go back to the govenor. It rides in a sleeve with two rings to hold oil. These rings wear a groove in the sleeve and loose pressure. Dirt in the govenor will be a problem too. You can check this with a pressure gauge like J Body said, but you will need a manual and a gauge to do it.

yes i rebuilt the trans.... this is the very first dodge trans ive ever built... i was told that i would have problems with it.... thanks for the info on the tail. it makes since... being that all my problems started in the tail when the rear planitary snapped.... it shifted great when i first built the trans then one day i pulled up to a red light and it never shifted again. ive pulled it apart a couple times since then and never found anything wrong

Take out the govenor and check for wear and make sure it is not hung up.
