hey first off, Merry Christmas fellas. so we have this '96 intrepid with a 3.3L in it. not sure of the tranny buts its an auto. so the problem is that all of a sudden the car will go into 1st gear and all of the lights for the tranny(p, r,n,d,3,2,1) all light up and the car stays locked in 1st. does anyone know what is going on, is this some type of trouble code, or a common problem, anyone seen this before?? thanks

 

Several things......could be the range sensor. It tells the TCM what gear the selector is in. Also could be a TCM failed. Probably need to get the TCM scanned for codes to get a better idea. Hard to guess on those........lots of electronics.

 

what exactly is the TCM. i'm gonna guess that its some kind of transmission Computer Module? and would most shops be able to check the TCM for codes if it is a tranny computer? thanks
