I got it all put back together yesterday afternoon & took it out for a test drive. Everything is working as it should now. As it turns out the 5th gear nut was a little loose and one of the 3 "keys" in the synchronizer was binding. After tightening the nut & cleaning & reassembling the synchronizer it's working again. Thanks again to all who replied.
