Sensor maybe?
About 3 weeks ago I was traveling down the road accellerating in 3rd gear and all of a sudden the power just went away. I could not accellerate but the tach was still working. It lasted about 5 seconds and went away.
This happened again on Monday. This time the engine light came on. I could be in 1st gear 3rd, OD it didnt matter. It was like hitting top end and the engine shutting down. It came and went 2-3 times. If I did pick up speed it was very slowly. I've had the neg-post disconnected (to reset comp and APPS) for 2 days. Ive been waiting on other parts. Im still waitng on my Hydo-boost. It should be here Thurs or Friday.
Any ideas?
PS what size socket fits the Map sensor?

Re:Sensor maybe?
My 98.5 has done that to me 3 times. I still haven't figured out what does it. I'm trying to find an inexspensive code reader for the truck. Haven't had any luck so far. If you find out what caused it let me know and i'll let you know if i learn something. My does it just like you said going fine dies for a few seconds then comes back on with the check engine light.

I had the same problem, it was the crank position sensor CKP it casts about $35 form Cummins!<br>BTW I also replaced the CPS Cam Position Sensor at the same time.<br><br>DRecu!

Re:Sensor maybe?
The 1693 code is just telling you that a code is also stored in the ECM as well as the PCM.
There are a couple of OBD II sites that misrepresent that code.
I have a link at home to a good site I'll have to edit this post later to include it.
And here it is. http://www.batauto.com/chrysler/
I noticed if you just go to their OBDII section, the 1693 is a turbo control circuit which is incorrect.
It is correctly identified in the Chrysler specific section.
