Question Power loss

I hope someone can help me with this. I just started out on vacation pulling my 30' 5th wheel trailer and the engine lite came on. I checked the codes with my Superchip tuner. Codes received were P0216, P1693, P1693.
First the Eng. lite came on then a few miles down the road it really started to run bad. A great loss of power. I turned around and came home and took the truck to the dealer to check it out. My question is would retuning my truck with the Superchips tuner cause these problems? I had it set to the tow safe mode. I hope it's not the VP-44.

My Truck is a 2001 Dodge 5.9 Cummins with auto trans.

Likely the lack of fuel supply to lube and cool the injector pump caused this problem. Do you have a fuel pressure guage? With the 0216 code - its not looking good.

check your fuel pressure while driving under a load, so you can address the lift pump system if needed when you replace your injection pump. Code P0216 - injection pump timing failure

Yes I have one! It's a hand held type. I checked the fuel pressure before the trip and it was showing 15 lbs. I don't know what it is now as I have taken it to the local Dodge dealer to look at.

I assume the 15 psi is at idle??....fuel pressure at idle doesnt mean much - you need to check FP at cruise and wide open throttle (pedal mashed to the floor) to get an accurate assesment of your fuel system.

To DR. Evil . Thanks for the tip. I will get a set of in cab gauges as soon as I can. I am having the lift pump and the VP-44 changed out now. I just don't want to take a chance of breaking down in the middle of the desert pulling my 5th wheel. I found a local certified Dodge Diesel mech. that has his own shop and is doing all for $1750.00. I thought that was a good price.
