P1693 & No Power
P1693 & No Power
Please help... I hauled my large gooseneck horse trailer on a 700+ mile trip last September. Half of the trip was with horses and I almost overheated going over one of the mountain passes. After that trip the truck sat for a month and then the next time I drove it there was NO power. I was sure the transmission was going out so it sat until a few weeks ago. I took it to a transmission place and they said that it was fine. However the computer spit out P1693 Mil fault in companion engine control module. So I started looking that up but I still have no idea what it means. I called a dealer and he said that he couldn't find it and that I should just bring it in and they would diagnose it. Isn't that what the other place already did? So I start talking to people and this guy at work says it controls fuel, injectors, etc. and that I need a new MAP sensor. So I went to the local auto parts store, they can't find that code in their book, she looks up a MAP sensor and tells me that it controls barometric pressure and that I have to buy one from a dealer. What the heck? Basically, the truck has NO power.
It is a 24 valve cummins, 1998 2500, 2WD, automatic. It lived at sea level for most of its life until a year ago and now I am at 6500'. It has 110,000.
Please help if you can.

You'll need to get it scanned by a Dodge Dealer to find out the missing code.
The 1693 just means there's a code, but off the shelf type scanners can't read it,
only the official Dodge DRB scantool can talk to both PCM and ECM, most scanners just talk to the PCM.
Oh, and welcome to the forums, glad to have you.

Thanks again. I wasn't sure that I even posted this correctly since I am new to this site.
Well, I hate to the the bearer of bad news....BUT, I will bet the last donut that you will see 0216 code some up. If it comes up, FYI, the 0216 is the Kiss of Death for your injector pump (VP-44). I assume you dont have a fuel pressure guage to monitor the health of the lift (transfer) pump. Dont waste your money on buying a Map sensor. Go to the dealer and get it scanned. As well, it would be a good idea to do a search under the 24V drivetrain forum and spend some time reading before you take the truck in.
