Oil and water don't mix

I am trying to buy a 97 CTD 1T 4x4. When I drove it the cab didn't get hot but the motor did. After checking under the hood I found gray pasty oily crap in the radiator. Uh oh. :'(<br>The truck ran like a scalded dog. How do I know if its a head or block or cooler or what else???? If you go to the *********** they would charge a fortune just to look at it.

Re:Oil and water don't mix

wanadieseltoo<br>...and you should definitely get one. With the engine running, were there any bubbles in the rad? Were the radiator hoses hot? Was there contamination in the oil?<br>Sure sounds like a head gasket.<br>george

Re:Oil and water don't mix

The radiator was &quot;belching&quot; out gray pasty crap and large bubles in it. Not small. The hoses were not hot.

Re:Oil and water don't mix

Sounds like somebody might have put Barsleak in the rad. It will cause your antifreeze to look cloudy and will plug up your heater core if you use too much. Changing a heater core in these trucks is not an easy job. Just my opinion but I'd be looking at a few more trucks before I bought.

Echo what berner said. You could be getting a bag of worms there unless you are getting a very good deal on it.

Re:Oil and water don't mix

You know, all that money into a new head you really should take care of it by getting a 3 piece exhaust manifold. Hate to repeat the problem.

Re:Oil and water don't mix

Ya if this thing runs any stronger after I get the oil out I'll need to install another seat belt. <br>Hey I don't see any of you Rams using the electronic monitors. Are they not reliable or what? I want guages (or readings) first thing.

Re:Oil and water don't mix

Ya redleg lets see what the problem is first. I hope your right and it is a gasket or worse__ head. I don't want to find out it is a hole in the block. If it is on tope the 3 pc is a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion.
