Noise under the hood!

Being new to the world of Diesel Trucks, I'm lovin the 5.9 in my 97 2500. I bought it used and with no maintenance records I listen to every sound under the hood.

I heard a loud squeak in the area of the turbo when I turn off the engine. Before turning off the engine, I allow a minute or two to let the turbo cool down but cannot verify if the previous owner did the same. The vehicle only has 68k miles and is otherwise "like new". Is there anyone out there that has advise or info?

Additionally, the is an audible dull click every 70 seconds coming from under the dash near the "a" pillar. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Check the studs that hold your airbox to the wheelwell - maybe one has a bad bushing and the metal is rubbing inside the hole.

And that dull clicking sound, AC compressor?

The squeek sounds normal. It is the belt: hi compression motor stops and the accessories try to keep turning. Belt slips and squeeks.

What do you mean A pillar?

That squeak is mostly on the 24v's for some reason. My 12v doesnt do it until its 90* outside.

I figured he would know a belt squeak if he heard it, but you might be right.

I think all the 2nd gen trucks do it.
All depends on the kind of belt you're using.

Is a description of a body part.

"A" Pillar is the roof support between the windshield and the front doors.
"B" Pillar is the roof support between the front and back door on a 4 door or between the door and the rear window on a 2 door.
"C" Pillar and so forth follows the same pattern.

When you say click, do your lights dim? Is it the intake heater cycling on? I'm not sure if you have one or not but?
