New Fuel Sending Unit from Fleece

So I was scouring the new Genos Catalog, I came across the fuel section, and saw Fleece Diesel is making a sender that says 91-97 cummins. Now will this actually work with our trucks? Why does it not say '89--'97 I can not believe the first gen tank is the same as the second gen. Help me understand!! My fuel level has always been all over the place I would love to change it. https://www.fleeceperformance.com/fu...e-cummins.html

Looking at it, it looks more like the one out of the 94 and newer trucks, a quick search and one of the differences in the 89 and 90 was a 5 prong electrical connection vs a 4 prong on the 91 and newer. maybe someone like Oliver will chime in here as he works on and has many parts for the 1st and 2nd gen trucks

Fuel tanks changed in 1991.5 for the gas trucks to the spin on hold down style vs the band clamp style. I'm guessing that's why the diesel tank changed too as the gas and diesel senders are the same style, just no fuel pump in the diesel unit.

The later 12V tanks use same style sender and hold down as the 1991.5 to 1993 1st Gen trucks. I'm not sure about the wiring, but the senders will interchange.

It looks like the Fleece unit requires a proprietary pigtail to be scabbed in to make it jive with the electronics.

BHD is correct the ‘89/‘90 tanks take a special sending unit that clamps on the fuel tank with a stainless V-band clamp. The later ones have a screw on cap like a mason jar.

Like Nonrev said the plug in is also very different.

Most aftermarket companies they you their parts fits…First hand experience tells me they are wrong..

I've installed the Fleece sending unit in my '92. It fit as advertised. You lose the "Low Fuel" light on the dash.
