Fuel Sending Unit Problems
So I get in my truck to leave one day, starts up, low fuel gauge light comes on and the tank is empty. I know the tank was full because I filled it up the day before. I finally get the truck into get fixed and the estimate total repair is $391 with the fuel sending unit. Then they call me back with another estimate of $560 with the explanation that the new fuel sending unit is for the upgrade
. Apparently dodge no longer makes any the fuel sending unit, only the upgrade. The upgrade put the sending unit and pump in the tank, not on the block. He told me this is how the new dodge's come and the only way to fix the problem. Now i've been to this place before and never had any problems and they've always been helpful.
My question is....are there any alternative repairs and I'm getting screwed or is this really the only way to go and just fork out the money? thanks

I went through this also...almost, i went to the parts counter and asked for a sender, the guy comes back with a big box and say ok that will be $367.00......um nope, I want the sender not the module. iwas told it is not available seperatly.....one of the guys here gave me the part# for the sender only, and $45.00 later I was on my way.
Not positive but think the same sender is used on all years
Last month on a '98 it was Dodge p/n 4797738 --- $48.96
The parts guy will be able to tell you which years it applies to and it may even help him find the correct number if this one doesn't work.

I had a bout with my fuel sending unit as well. They are not to hard to get to. You can either drop the tank or you can pull the bed. Its not to hard to get to either way. I had a full tank so i took the bed off. I have a shortbed so it only took 2 guys to take it off and put it back on. It was a bit heavy for 2 guys but 4 would work great. There is also a guy that posted on my thread that has sending units. You might want to PM him. Here is a link to it.
