no start on a 01 duramax
no start on a 01 duramax
i am posting on all the diesel sites i am a member of. that being said, i have a friend that has a 01 duramax that wont start. he has change the fuel fillter. is not getting fuel to the fillter. does it have a pump in the tank and if so, how hard is it to change? any help would be great.
Did it have a starting issue before or after the fuel filter change? I haven't seen or heard of fuel pumps in the Dmaxs faililng. Try this site.

Be sure you open the "bleeder" screw on top of the fuel filter housing (A black plastic screw) and let all the air out.
The little hand pump will build pressure with air in the system, so even though the pump becomes hard to press, it can still have ALOT of air.
When he is cranking it, be pressing the hand pump. That'll get fuel up to the high pressure pump real quick.
The Duramax, just like the other "big 3" diesels won't fire very easily if the batteries are low. Even with a fully primed and ready truck, low batteries greatly increase the starting time.
