Duramax/Allison

Today while visiting with a friend at his paint and body shop, he asked if I was considering this GM combo. He said that without exception, all Duramax/Allison trannys were destroyed when the truck was involved in a frontal collision that punctured or broke the tranny lines or the cooler. The Allison pumps 22GPM and even a small stream type leak pumped out the trans fluid before the engine could be shut down. I don't know if this is peculiar to the Allison or just not been noticed with other AT's. It'll be interesting to watch this to see if it gains attention or has validity from the forums.

I can guarantee you that my A518 does not pump that much. We just recently changed tranny fluid and took the hoses off at the cooler to get all the trapped oil out of TQ. It took a good while to get a gallon pumped out. Bill

Re:Duramax/Allison

If the tranny is the only thing that gets broken on a frontal collision I think I would be grateful.
