No 1st gear
No 1st gear
I have a 2001 3/4 ton turbo diesel. While towing the trans shifts into every gear fine. But if your not towing, its wants to start out in 2nd all the time. I think this is a computer problem. What do you think?
Re:No 1st gear
The trans was serviced about 15k ago. I have had trans that slipped or wnet bad before, but nothing like this. If you stomp it from stop it will start in first or if you are towing. But if you start off normal, it starts in 2nd.
Re:No 1st gear
I had a mustang muscle car with the same exact problem . Trannies pretty much work on the same principle.
My problem was a dinky little piston in the valve body that was sticking. The trans dude had the V-body out , fixed and back in in an hour or so.
Wish you were here
I have a great trans guy here in town .Totally honest stands behind his work.
Ask around for a good trans guy in yer neck of the woods and the fix should be relatively inexpensive.

Re:No 1st gear
Contact the trans Man himself Bill K of DTT he will know best what your problem is I would guess its electronic internally but Bill knows best. He even has a toll free line on his website www.dieseltrans.com
Re:No 1st gear
Since you do not describe any error codes that have triggered your "check engine" light, I suspect your kickdown cable needs adjustment. It is a fairly easy process, and a Haynes Manual #30041 with the how to described in detail can be obtained from most parts stores for about $15.
If it is not the kickdown cable, then check your TPPS. Sometimes a bit of contact cleaner will free them up and get them working again without replacement. But, the TPPS usually will issue an error code that will trigger the light.
