New Problem
New Problem
Ok I've been coming here for a couple years not posting but reading and learning some new things.
Thanks.
Now I need a little help as I had something happen this morning that I've never heard of before and if it's listed here I haven't found it..
Started 'Big Red' this morning it was 8 deg out had her plugged in block heater comes on at 4AM and this was at 5:30 when I started her up.
Started just fine let her idle for a bit then went to shift into reverse pressed the brake pedal and that's when I heard it.
Sounded like a whine (moan) (loud) and the pedal was hard and pulsed.
Sounded like it was coming from under the drivers side in front of my feet.
Turned the steering wheel same sound.
backed up and pulled back forward it got quieter but was still there.
Checked under the hood, Power steering pump, belts, ect.... No problem
Let her idle a little then drove to work. I could still hear the moan as the temp increased the moan got less and didn't apprear when I pressed the brake pedal.
I've had no problems with her since the dealer replaced the tranny one week after I bought her back in 2000. I do all the preventative maintenance/inspection myself, has the original lift pump ect... I've got 134k on her to date. I use her to plow snow (when we get any) here in Southern Maryland.
The only thing I can think that is different this winter over previous is I like all the rest of you had to start using the low sulphur fuel. I haven't been putting a fuel additive in the tank for a few years.
Ok That's about all the info I know right now. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Gonna go out when it warms up a bit today and see if it is still there.
Thanks
Howard

Cold p/s fluid running through the hydro boost. The pump makes noise.
That`s why you hear it when you turn the wheel and push the brake pedal....
Run it and let the fluids come up to temp and see if the noise dissipates...
And by run it, I mean drive it.

Thanks Doc.
I was hoping that was going to be it. That was the first thing I thought of and even check the fluid level.
Just couldn't make the link between the two, so P/S and brake both pass thru the hydo boost?

Southern Maryland...not sure how cold it got there. The last few mornings here it was below zero, same whinning sound coming from power steering pump. It goes away after it warms up real well. I think it might be moisture in the fluid???
