If he is at a gas station I would assume that means it drove for a while. Any idea if it was showing any symptoms while he was driving?

Freinds should not let friends drive while doing thoughtless things, Being politcally correct here I hope.

To get up and running quickly, disconnect and remove the fueling box you installed, and then leave the negative battery cables disconnected for an additional 20 minutes. This will default the truck's computer back to its OEM settings.

Reconnect the batteries and the truck should start unless you have permanently damaged the PCM.

Because the 04.5 and newer Cummins uses a totally different controller map to handle the different style turbo used on the later engines, the box you installed will not work.
