It is a 12 Valve. The 24 did not start until 98.5. Even knowing the auto tranny ??, myself I would just give it a good look at. If you like what you see, get it. My 98 is going on 150000 on the original tranny and is still pulling what I hook to.

Now watch it quit just cuz I went and said that.

Like Ed said, it's a 12 valve if it's a '97. The injection system is darn near bulletproof on those motors.

Look for door rust, wet carpet, KDP damage (not likely with the low miles but who knows). That's about it.

I agree with sherod the 24v didnt start till late 98
However 27K on a 97 is pretty low so if it shows like its got 27k for miles dont worry about the tranny (unless you plan on BOMBing it) as many 47re go a long, long time. I would check but I think that year may have some KDP issues. If its nice sounds like a keeper. Good luck

Do you know the history behind the truck with it only having 27K in 7 years? Only used to tow a 5th wheel occasionally? Any chance of seeing reciepts for work that was done on it?

I don't know if this will help you much, but I found this place through Trader Online while helping a friend look for a truck. I'm not endorsing them, just saw thier website and that they are in California. They have half a dozen or so CTD trucks. Page through the "trucks" section, all extended or club cab, one or two manuals. A few of them are lifted or modifed, so I don't know what you want, but I hope this helps...
