how big of a skid steer are you looking for? like a good condition - smaller one or a decent(needs-some-work) - bigger one?

and ill admit (before it becomes apparent) that i dont know much about them. However, i have ran a few. It was a 260 john deere, slow as heck, but would pick up rocks bigger than you could fit in the bucket. Were talkin about a ton and a half to 2 tons.

What are you planning on doing with it?

Get a Case I have run JD, Bobcat, New Holland, and Case. Had one at a fertilizer plant that i worked at had 9000 hrs on it and no major repairs. they made the bucket bigger to load trucks quicker it would lift the world. Plus they have Cummins 4b in them.

I bought a Case 1845C a couple years ago for 8K. We put some new hoses on it & did every bit of fluid & lube maintenance possible & she has ran like a champ. Never had any problems other than flat tires.

Just make sure, if you get model, that it has the "c" as it has a taller reach for loading higher.

I will second the motion for the Case 1845C. Ran one for years and they are great little loaders. I really like having all of the controls on the hand sticks instead of having to use your arms AND legs to operate it like on the Bobcats.

P.S. Did you see the New Holland for sale in the DTR classifieds ???? I think it is in your price range but not sure about location.

We run a bobcat S185, 743 and a Bobcat 430 trackhoe. The S185 is alot nicer to run then the 743 but it was also 55 grand but for the $ a Bobcat 743 can't be beat! It is the prodessesor to the 753 and 763 what makes it better then those to is it is geared lower in the drivetrain. So it just tends to dig better if you will back off on the sticks a lil. If you are looking for somethin new/bigger we had a 773 befor the S185 and that was a great machine.

I would stay away from New Holland. I have seen a few and talked to several operaters that ran them and they are a nightmare to work on! You about have to about pull the motor to change the battery! While I was at our local Bobcat dealership a brand new New Holland came in on a rollback with about 250 hours on it. It just died on the owner for the 6th time he told us that he had nothing but problems out of the loader and the dealer was so over loaded with work that they couldn't get it fixed. So they pretty much just ignored him.

Overal the way i see it you can't go wrong with a Bobcat that has been taken care of.

We bought a Bobcat 873 for the ranch- the bucket lifts straight up. I had JD (6675 if I recall properly) come out, and there was no comparison. Also, the JD pump was WAY more expensive to replace if it crapped out.
I didn't look at the Case, and Cat did not have a skid steer back then.
