Misfire?

I have a 2001 Cummins and sometimes when I accelerate hard it cuts out bad and comes back to life. Other times if you are accelerating in higher gears it misses a little and puffs black smoke every time. Seems like its is worse when i go around a corner and accelerate hard?
Any ideas??

Same ole question. Have you tested fuel pressure? Do you have a gauge? Have you added any aftermarket devices?

Misfire!

My truck is doing the exact same thing described above.

2001 Dodge 2500

I have stock exhaust with an Aero tube muffler.
Van Aken 60 hp pc.
K and N filter in stock Air box.

The stuff above has all been done in the last six months.

Installed Fuel pressure guage this evening. Fuel pressure reading is 0 but truck is still running and seems to be running well.
Is this possible on 0 psi. Cant even get any fuel to come to the isolator.

Not only possible, but probable. Turn the key on and off 3 times with out starting, leaving the key on the third time and record any codes in the odometer window. The injector pump will draw fuel through a dead lift pump and will be enough to run the engine, but won't be enough to properly cool and lubricate the injector pump. Depending on how long the lift pump's been bad will determine how much damage the injector pump has.

Installed Fass pump on 8/14/06 fuel pressure is 16-17 psi now and truck is running well. For now. Thanks to everyone who responded to this. I wish i would have installed the Fass pump before now. I recommend the Fass pump it comes with a four year warranty. It is worth spending the extra money over the stock pumps.

You got it backwards. You don't replace your LP to ward off trouble, you install a fuel gauge and monitor the system. The Fass can die right along side the rest of them.

You really need to install a gauge you can watch at all times.

Keep an eye on your IP, I would hazzard a guess that it has already been dealt the Death Blow by lack of fuel from a bad LP.....zillions of posts on this site tell the same story, the only variation is in how long the IP stayed alive after it had been harmed....

I said that i had already installed a fuel pressure guage. I installed the guage before the Fass.

Mine too

My 2000 does this but does not smoke. The check engine light also stays on. I replaced sensors it said to replace to no avail. It also never misses or cuts out over 55 miles per hour and it does it really bad at lower speeds.

engine misfiring:

The cylinder misfiring is what mine has been doing since new!!! It always has bucked from 1100 to 1275 rpm (they tell me not to run the engine at this throttle setting) / if I wanted a gas turbine I should have bought a Pratt & Whitney and had some real power , then it would have the excuse of some thousands of RPM !!! I ran around for 8 to 10 months without the L/P working ( didn't have any power ) then had cumins change the vp:It would still just (rev and scream) but little power and very little acceleration. Mine has an electrical ARC in the system somewhere. This screwsup the fuel valve closing for building fuel pressure for injection. Acceleration doesn't happen now till after 1400 rpm in 3 rd or 4 th gear. This is the best that it has ever been.
