loud metallic clicking in 4WD
loud metallic clicking in 4WD
I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 Quadcab. Last time i put it in 4WD I heard a loud metallic clicking noise. I think it's coming from the drivers side. It happens more than once during a single tire rotation and doesn't change if I'm turning the wheel or accelerating. Every thing seems in 2WD. I really don't have a clue so any ideas are much appreciated.
Welcome to DTR, jeezul. When my '03 started the click-click-click, it was real noticable when driving next to the cement center devide on the highway. It would click slowly when I drove slowly and faster when I drove faster. (for those of you that haven't experienced a 'go-slow', here in the Bay Area you can go all sorts of speeds in the 'fast' lane on the freeway)
IIRC, it was around 72k miles and was my lifetime lubricated front U-Joint on the driver's side. Apparently, the lifetime was over as there was nothing but dust in the joints. Replaced both fronts with Spicers I think, that are greasable. I'm at 123k now.
