Lift pump or ?

Hi all,

We just got back from a 2000 mile trip, thank goodness! On my first fillup, after about 350 miles, my fuel pressure gauge showed 5 PSI. After about 2 minutes it went back up to 10-12 range. No more problems until morning. Started truck-5 PSI again and about 2-3 min later back up to 10-12. Every morning, same thing and if I waited to get fuel until down to 1/4 of a tank I got the 2-5 PSI again until 2 or 3 min went by. It was almost like it had to build pressure in the lines or something.

Is the lift pump dying or might something else be wrong.

Only have 40,000 miles on truck.

Thanks,
Alan

Sounds like it to me. I don't thing these lift pumps understand milage. At least mine didn't.

Mine would drop from 12 or so to about 2 or 3 all of a sudden. I could "pop" the go pedal and it would come back up for awhile. After the second one, I went with the FASS II.

Check under the truck. The rubber supply line to the lift pump just slips over the steel line from the tank. They get loose just from vibration. Mine acted the same way. Two .89 cent hose clamps solved the problem over 10k ago.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll start with the supply line, change the filter and then go for the lift pump.

I'll let you know.

better do the lift pump as well just to be safe. after 4 lift pumps and 4 injection pumps i pay very close attention to my guauge. it has never lied. now that i have the pusher pump, at WOT it never goes below 26psi and at idle its at 33. trust me, driving with a lift pump that only works a little will definetly kill your VP44.
