injector pump

I had the lift pump go out on my truck – about 9 months ago. I was under the 100,000 miles so it was covered by the warranty.

I just had my fuel injector pump go out. I have 102,000 mile. Any chance I am going to convince them to cover it under the warranty due to the stress that was put onto it when the lift pump went out or do I just get to pay the big bucks?

Thank you for any help you can give.

Re:injector pump

Welcome--read to your heart's content 8) You'll learn more hear than most of us can absorb. Has for me anyway, but I'm not the brightest bulb out there.

Anyway, if it were me......I'm going through the same thing--except I'm fortunate unough to be under 100K......I'd start by whining to the dealer where you hopefully have some relationship with. Then, if you cannot get any satisfaction, call Daimler Chrysler at 800-992-1997---have your VIN handy, and your dealer info handy...Just remember, the squeeky wheel gets the grease.

Luck to ya--Magnum

Re:injector pump

I think thats going to be pretty tough to do....

I guess it will depend ultimately on the service manager at the dealer. Also, calling DC is probably the place to start. Theres a LOT of money on the line - if you are persistant, you MAY be able to get it covered. Good luck to you.

Im curious.....have you been running any type of fuelling box or performance injectors???

Re:injector pump

If you go back to the servicing dealer and talk to the service manager, you just may be able to get the injection pump warranty to apply. They will have a record of your earlier failure, and you will need to stress the interrelationship of the failure of the lift pump to the failure of the injection pump. Sometimes all it takes is for a related failure to be enough to get the warranty extended.

Dealers do not like to do this, because the factory does not cover all their costs on warranty work. You may get some movement if you volunteer to cover part of the labor cost.

If they do not cover the pump, go to www.wentlanddiesel.com and get one of their rebuilt pumps.

Re:injector pump

Thank you all for your input. I talked to the service manager at the dealer and there is "nothing they can do". They did give me the # for DC so I guess that is my next call.
I have been quoted a price of $1,250 for a re-built pump with a $400 credit back when I return the core and about $300 for labor. Does this sound reasonable?
I have been reading all I can here and I now know so much more about my truck that I should be better prepared next time.
To respond to Dr. Evil - I haven't been running any fueling box or performance injectors. Thank you all for helping.

Re:injector pump

The price quoted is in the ball park. But, check around. There are rebuilts and there are rebuilts, some use far superior piston and cylinder material and will not fail anytime soon, others have a thirty minute and five block warranty. Talk to the rebuilder.

Re:injector pump

Cummins was a little higher on the pump and an $800 core charge, so it is not a bad price.

Re:injector pump

Well, I finally got my truck back tonight. DC wouldn’t help at all (no surprise there). The injector pump came with a 1 year warranty – no mileage limit. I am glad to have it back!
