Arrow Ignition switch wont shut the truck off

My truck will start ok with the ignition but wont shut off.The oil light and guages stay on if I kill it with the clutch. Its like the ignition switch is stripped. It starts fine .I looked up ignition switch on parts america and it looks like ther is a lock cylinder ,then an ignition switch.I am unfamiliar withthis setup. If anyone has any experience withthis I would appreciate some instructions.Thanx

The key part and the actual switch are two diffrent items. There is a rod that moves when the key turns to activate the actual ignition switch. Normally my guess would be the fuel shutoff solenoid but you still have power turned on to gauges, so I agree with the ignition switch plan of attack. You don't need the tumblers, just the switch part lower down the column.

The electric part of the switch is available at Napa for around $30. You will also need a torx security bit to change it. Sorry, don't remember the size offhand but Napa sells these also for around a buck.

It sounds to me more like the lock cylinder is broken. The steering wheel doesn't need to come off, just the column cover. The lock cylinder is actually inside the switch. You'll see how it all works when you take the column cover off.

As Dave said only the cover needs to come off. Two torx screws from the bottom gets it off.

If you do not have the special "safety torx" bit to remove the lock you can put a very small screwdriver inside the screw and tap it lightly with a hammer. The safety pin will break off and you can use a regular torx bit to remove it.
