i am a newbie and dont know anything about these trucks yet. so i need all the help i can get. my problem is i bought the truck a couple of weeks ago and noticed the trans was overfilled by about 1 1/2 quarts. i fixed that and it shifts erratic starting about 40mph and feels like its slipping real bad the rpms shoot up and the trans temp light comes on then goes back off. i tried searchin on here but there are to many possibilities for me to distinguish the problem. thanx

 

oh i forgot its a 95 3500 4x4 auto

just some basics !

did you check the fluid when warm , on level ground , engine idling prefurabily after a drive when you used R someware also ,and trany Must be in N for correct reading !

is it goinng into 4 th and does it luck up ?

sugest a fluid change , clean the magnet and new filter , and band adj if needed .
also while your in there a tfod-diesel transgo valve body kit will greatly improve durability and life of trany .

atf+4 ONLY fluid

next a look at ow the tps is functioning .

 

the fluid and filter were just changed and yes it was hot and in neutral on level ground and ideling when the level was checked. the temp light stays on now. i really just cant explain to much i know its almost impossible to get it to go 55mph before it just slips so bad i have to get out of it.and i dont know what it feels like when its in lockup. and i dont think it goes to 4th. sorry ive driven nothin but manuals for 6+ years

you will easily know when it goes to lockup as engine speed will drop dramaticly app 700 rpm and you will feel engine pulling similar to going into high gear in a stick .
truck will easily go past 55 mph !
what gear ratio do you have ?
also scan the codes , autozone does it free !
