Fuel tank leak on 99

Well i have thought for a while that i was possibly leaking a little fuel when filling up at the station but latley i have been dripping fuel every where i park. I left for a hunting trip last wednesday leaving my truck sit till sunday and it leaked probly a half gal to a gal from the top of the tank it seems then it runs down to the bottom and drips/ I only left 1/4 tank in while i was gone to so i dont see how fuel would come out the top. Well any ideas on what it could be parts need or cost let me know ,thanx

Sounds like a fuel return line. The line that brings extra fuel back from your IP.

Defiantely time to get a closer look at things. Good flashlight and a mirror will help. I would agree on the return line. Possible feed line, but it should leak when it was running if it were a feed line.

had the same problem with mine. the problem ended up being a rusted line on the fuel sending unit. it rusted through. replaced it, and its been fine ever since

If you have access to an air compressor pressurize the tank with a rag wrapped around a blow gun, 5 psi max, and you'll find the leak right away.

I would suspect the return line. If it were the feed line, he would be having issues with the system loosing prime.

Here's my fuel tank funny.

Just for the heck of it several years ago, I bought a Datsun truck for about $200. When I picked it up, it was on empty so I stopped at a station to fill it up. At about the $20 mark, I said to my brother something like dang, how much deos this thing hold? You'd think it had a hole in the gas tank by now. He looked down and said well, maybe it does, as gas was running all the way out to the street by then.

It actually turned out that the vent line was off of it's fitting and gas was spraying out like a little boy that dranked too much root beer, which seems about what maybe yours is doing. I don't think Iever put more than $12 into it once the hose was put back into place.
