fan clutch or thermostat
Re:fan clutch or thermostat
I had the same problem on mine, got up to 230 pulling hills, and thought it was the fan clutch and/or the t-stat. It turned out to be oil vapor coming out of the breather bottle was being blown onto the radiator by the fan and then every piece of dust, dirt and debris that tried to pass through was caught by the oil. I pulled the radiator, held it to the sun and saw no light!
I spent almost 1 hour with degreaser and a pressure washer to get it clean, reinstalled it, relocated the vapor bottle away from the front of the engine and now I have yet to see 190 on the temp gauge where it used to sit just over 190 all the time.

Re:fan clutch or thermostat
Get the 180 that's what should be in there from the factory, yes the new number is 3954194, it's Caltherm brand, better than Stant and cheaper. 180 should be marked on the thermostat.

Re:fan clutch or thermostat
flushing the rad dose not mean you on pluged it if it has a problem.
ez way to test-unhook from eng. plug all openings.
fill up.pull the plug on the lower hose and it
should gush out, no slow stuff here.anything less is a prolem .
thats a simple rad do it youself flow tast-file it.
Of course have cap off when you do this.
Re:fan clutch or thermostat
u can check ur fan clutch by holding a piece of paper in front of the rad if it get suck up tight the clutch is working. i usually do this infront of the grill its a better measure of how well the clutch is working..
Re:fan clutch or thermostat
I have a 93 D350, and I just had the radiator rodded out , put in a new thermostat part # 3802273 then replaced the antifreeze with Texco extended life antifreeze and I used distilled water. The distilled water will keep the sedament from building up in your radiator. I haven't had a overheating problem sence.. I pull a 30' fifthwheel trailer. ;D
