Dodge Banks 5.9L Hard Miss in Engine
I have a problem with my Dodge Banks Diesel 5.9L But it only happens when it's in it's power band and producing a fair amount of boost, at anywhere from 1700 to 2500 RPM, and usually only in 3rd gear and up - I don't think it works too much in 1st and second gear. If you ease up to that RPM range, without putting your foot in it, it most likely won't miss. But when it does, under power, it jerks really hard, like for a split second it loses power and then it comes on again. It drives fine as long as you don't need to pass or pull hard up a hill or whatever. Very strange... Hopefully someone can help me out with this problem. Thanks alot Will.

First thing to do is give us the year of the truck, that will go a long way to helping you.
LP is the Lift Pump, of which it could be several types, hence the year of the truck, other mods, etc.

It's a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT version, with the standard (not hi output) 5.9L Cummins with a manual 5 speed tranny, 4 wheel drive. Please let me know what else i can provide you with. I sure appreciate everything so far. Will

Yep, I'd say it could be the lift pump as well. With those symptoms it could be the APPS (throttle position sensor). There's a how-to under the tech facts section on this site to reset the APPS. I would give that a try first, and then get the fuel pressure checked on your lift pump.

Oh, for future reference, you have a 24V with a Bosch VP44 pump. Some of us prefer to live before electronics could drop us, but there really is nothing wrong with the VP44. They are actually easier to modify and change when they do go bad.
Back to your issue, the first thing you need to do is verify that you have fuel pressure all the way to WOT under load. You could put a temporary gauge in for a test drive, but most of us have permanent gauges.
If you do not have fuel pressure, then either the fuel filter is plugged, the Lift Pump ( on the side of the engine ) is going or gone, or we have something else going on. If you do have pressure,w e can then look to other things like the APPS or other VP44 mysterious voodoo. ( Sorry, I am still learning about 24V's myself....)

never had the apps cause the problem you have. your fuel pressure should be no less then 8 at WOT if it is lees then you need to replace the lp before it kills your injector pump.
