coolant leak!!
coolant leak!!
I drove probly 350 miles yesterday on a trip to pick up a bed, hood off greg off the forums. A dripping was noticed while stopped to grab the parts but i figured it was just a simple oil leak. Well on the way home i noticed a high temp. on my temp gauge then it slowly cooled down. It was cooling off so i threw the heater on but it wasn't getting hot and the truck had been running 2hours or so so deff. warmed up. So i crawled under it today and one of them hoses on the back pass side of motor are leaking. Its a rubber line, is this a heater hose? Kinda need proper name so i can go to parts store and get it swapped out so its drivable this week.
Thanks,

Is the leaking fluid coolant or oil ?
Have you checked all your fluid levels ?
What size is the line ? [ line usally refers to metal line ] vers. hose , rubber
if its about 1 5/8" then it would be heater hose , if it is a heater , make sure that if the one in ? has any bends , shapes , stay away from just bulk hose , off a reel , when it needs go around some thing and bends and is not prefoarmed it may kink then stop flowing .
To help us to help you , you should go to the user control pannel and fill in the info on truck , you should get more & better answers .

Deff. an antifreeze leak, The line im refering is about 7" above the hole in which you insert the barring tool. The location just described where the line is visibile it is U shaped to go around part of the block. After the U It then goes behind the block where you can't see but you can feel it turns to rubber for a few inches and then ends and is hosed clamp to the block i assume. Thats the back section but from the U it then runs towards the front of the truck under that canister on pass side frame area. It then runs straight towards the front of the motor by the oil filter then it turns to a short section of rubber and goes up to the top of the motor where it turns to metal line again. Then it runs above the injectors, on the pass. side and works its way back towards the firewall. But like i said that cylinder on the frame rail which i believe is some type of canister it runs under it. The line is rusted out which is why its leaking. I think at the least i will have to remove the exhaust manifold and the turbo assy. and intake to access it.
really, is the trans. cooled by antifreeze? would my heater have been effected simply because the fluid was so low since most leaked out? I thought the trans cooler was mounted in front of the intercooler, if this is true then how is this a trans cooler line? i didnt see the line going into the radaitor for trans cooler
Thats a heat exchanger , I think the idea is that it helps to warm up the trans.
fluid , on my truck there is a temp. senor that keeps it from shifting to OD & Lock up , until it reaches about 40* fer.
Since the coolant is going through it , and the coolant leaks out , then your heaters going to be affected .

dealer called it an oil coolant line the parts lady printed out the pic and they had it in stock was $59. So me and my brother just went and bought 5/8 heaterhose and bought a 90* barb and a straight connector bard and hook it up that way and ran the line over the canister. It turned out nice then we strapped it down to keep it away from the hot parts. Cost me $12 this way plus i dont have to worry about the metal line rusting again, and if for some reason it failed it would be 10x easier to replace..
