Clinking noise!!
Clinking noise!!
about havlf the time when i start to go i am getting a clink and sometimes when i shift and start to accelerate sound kinda from the back i have checke the u joints the are ok has anybody else had somthing like this if so what was it the truck is a 2002 w/6spd 355 rear end 67,000 miles any suggestion would be appreciated
check your and you drive shafts and your rear axle change the fluid and look in side the pumpkin look for broken spider gears ring gear parts ETC...... if has a limited slip check that too. check front end also
Most usually the clinking is the rear drive shaft center carrier. The best way to check this is to block the front tires, jack up all four tires, put the truck in neutral, and then slide under and work the rear drive shaft from side to side and up and down. Also, twist it a bit. If you have slack in the carrier it will both move a hair and make a bit of noise.
Next on the list is the rear universal joint. Do the same as the above and watch that joint for any evidence of play. If that does not find the problem, do the same for the front joint, and then try the same process of elimination on the front axle drive shaft.
Take your time, and do this prescriptively, and it will lead you right to the problem. If you do not have enough jack stands to lift all four wheels, disconnect the front driveline while you check the rear assemblies. Then disconnect the rear driveline, re-attach the front driveline and check the front assemblies.
If you have excessive case to carrier bearing, or excessive spider clearance, the clunking will always be present. With it being only some of the time, it is doubtful that any internals in the differentials are at risk.
If the above process does not find the clunk, then disconnect both drivelines and put the truck in 5th and 4 WD high with the engine off and the clutch depressed. Then twist the front driveline flange from side to side and listen to both the transfer case and the transmission for the source of the noise.

well the driveshaft does have some movement inside the carrier barring housing if you push up ar just wiggle on it it will move. maybe this is the source of it u joints all seem good i am gonna change the fluid in the rear diff it looks pretty cooked any suggestions on what I should use ? this truck is always pulling somthing asnd for long distances all over the is so i want the best i can get in it.
