Can you be a little more specific. Do the head lights go out or do all the lights go out. do they reset? Is this affecting the engine running? It's common in the 1st gens for the head light switches to burn out.
yes all the lights go out everything they will reset after a bit or i can restet them by unpluging the positive bat cable and then putting it right back on the truck wont even turn over all i get i a click and it kills ALL the lights after the "click" there is no power to the truck at all NOTHING works
ok i just went out and pulled the starter off of the truck and sat it on the core support nad rehocked the bat up turned the key like to start the truck and the starter works fine so i put it back on the truck and same thing CLICK and all lights and power go out

testing
I would start with a test light, 1. bat post bat post, hit start, if it goes out ( I dought ) bat problem, Any way dont take the bat post off, while the lights are off start going down the cables. IE: poat clamps, starter bolt etc. If all is well do the negitive side.

i have tested all the wires from the bat to the starter i have jucice before i turn the key and after i do and it "clicks" nothing to any of the truck i dontn understand how i could of started the truck when it just had the adapter plate, flywheel and clutch on it and it was just fine
i hot wired the starter and it still clicks but it dont kill the lights like when i use the key ??? you know how the old chevys were if you did not have the starter shimed right ?? they would click and jam up well that is the sound it is making but the second gen trucks dont use shims right ??? or a spacer ?

I would think the battery may be weak (even after a charge.) It may not have enough power to operate the starter, then after it tries, there is not enough power left to operate the lights. Try another battery, or attach a voltmeter directly to the battery and watch it while you crank the starter.
