Burned up Computer!

The computer in my ‘92 D250 burned up and now I can’t seem to find one. I tried to have it rebuilt but it will not take a rebuild. The dealers say that a rebuilt one runs $285 but are back ordered and a brand new one is $800 but not to easy to come by. Anyone have a clue where I might be able to locate one?

Re:Burned up Computer!

Thanks for the responses, I’ve been to five different junkyards and have called several. I still have a handful to go but came across this site while searching online and thought I’d stop in and try my luck. ;D Thanks again! Tom

Re:Burned up Computer!

Is your truck a stick or auto. I have one from a 93 automatic. I believe they are the same. Nothing wrong with it. Purchased because of misdiagnosis, Its a long story. Easy to get for std trans. Tougher for automatic.

Re:Burned up Computer!

I would like to thank all of you for your input. I’m going to call Full Logic & S & J Auto Parts Monday, the weekend always puts a damper on things. I’ll let you know what the outcome is.

Greatwhite, It is an automatic, What’s the part number you have on yours? Thanks, Tom

Re:Burned up Computer!

Go to Autozone! I got one there almost 2 years ago for my 92' D350. It was about $180 and they had it next day. Take it from me and the other fellow who suggested them. I spent 3 weeks trying to find one everywhere, then I figured what the heck, I'll call Autozone. They have them and can get you one.

Re:Burned up Computer!

No this is the PCM located behind the battery, tucked inside the left fender. It is on the 91.5' - 93' trucks. It controls the Intake Heater, Speedometer, Charge Rate, A/C, Cruise, and I am sure a few other things that I have forgotten. The truck will function without it, but you will not have the above mentioned items. And that makes for a :-X to start the things when it is extremely cold outside with only one battery. In most cases the charge rate will fail to wide open as mine had. It will bury the 18v gauge on the truck. So I added a external regulator until I broke down and bought one, when it finally got cold enough I couldn't get my truck started after work in January of 2002.

Re:Burned up Computer!

OK, I had a 89 and a 95 and I didn't remember it on any of those or it just didn't go bad while I had them maybe. I know that goofy little ABS box was inside behind the glove box on my 95 if I remember right. May have been on the 89 too.
