96 CTD Wont shut off / fuel rail burned
96 CTD Wont shut off / fuel rail burned
On my 96 CTD I have been having some starting problems. This morning it would not shut off. I had to unhook the battery cables to shut it off. Now the round electrical part on my injection pump has a hole melted thru it. Can anyone help please.
Re:96 CTD Wont shut off / fuel rail burned
Sounds like the starter decided to hang up and back feed power through the shut-off solenoid circuit thus frying the solenoid. You need to change the starter contacts immediately and now replace the solenoid and probably the relay. Do a search and you'll find the radio shack P/N for a new relay. You can also not use the solenoid and instead install a manual choke cable to start & stop the truck. You may have to look at the rest of your electrical system - some others have reported burning wires from the same failure (even having the truck catch fire). Good luck

Is that what that round electrical thing on the injection pump is, the shut-off solenoid? Where is the relay that you mentioned? Thanks much for your help so far.
