Truck wont Shut down 2003 CTD

So my buddy just called me and he is coming over and im looking for ideas were to start. He said before the truck gets up to full charging, it will shut off but once it goes over 14V on the gauge it wont shut down. Now yesterday he said it was kinda speratic and it shut down this time but not this time and then if he moved the steering wheel it would shut down. And some times it would just shut down on its own(key off,but still running). Now he was going to take it to the dealer but they had no clue and at 105/hr they said it could take a while to fix the issue. Any help would be awsome of were to start.

Kinda sounds like a sentry key issue but I'm no means a mechanic.

Nope completely stock. Nothing done to the truck but maintenance. He hauls a stock trailer just about every day. So he never did anything to the truck.

If it's overcharging, it could be back-feeding voltage to the fuel system. I am still trying to figure out these new CR engines.

No fuel shut off on the common rail. Sounds like a wiring issue if he can turn the steering wheel and it shut off.

Just a suggestion--check the wiring to the electrical part of the ignition switch, you`ll find it on the left side of the steering column. I`ve had to replace this switch 2 times for bad connectors. This is definitely a badly engineered item.
