GMC 6.0L burned me bad

Was going home the other night when a GMC 2500 truck pulled up next to me and layed it down. So I followed suit and we met up at a stop light. We went and the truck just pulled away from me. I didn't know those 6L gas engines could move those trucks so fast. Man it really hacked me off that I wasn't even close to this guy. He pulled away from me when I had it all the way down in 4th.

Really humbled me. Stock truck beats modified diesel?? How sad is that.

Maybe the GMC had some mods or a tall gear. one thing for sure put a couple thousand Lbs behind both a run it off I bet the outcome will be different or line up bumper to bumper and se what pushes what. you probably didn't buy CTD for racing any how don't try to run against one of those extremes either they are really fast.

He beat you but I bet he was looking for a gas station after that run. My neighbor has a Chevy 2500 CC 4x4 with the 6.0L. Yes, it is quick, but he's lucky to get 13mpg highway running empty and don't ask when pulling a trailer.

Yeah I know a guy with a V10 Dodge.

It moves out but the MPG empty is probably like the 6.0 towing.

If I want to move out from a light I have a car that hits 60 in WELL under 5 seconds. Which I may sell when I get the truck.. Anyway... I'm going to maket the CTD snappy but am more concerned with MPG and work performance than jack rabbit starts.

Are you sure it was a 6.0 and not an 8.1?

My old Ford 5.4L could whip this CTD off the line or in the 1/4...whatever. That's UNLOADED. Put ANY weight behind them and the CTD RIPS! Or...race UPHILL! This is one sweet engine, but it wasn't designed for drag racing.

Re:GMC 6.0L burned me bad

I asked the guy what he had in the truck and he said 6 liter. Maybe he meant the 6000 series engine not sure. Either way he reminded me that I'm not a drag racer.

But my truck pulls great with 7000lbs behind it. *G* Wish I always had that behind her she rides and drives perfect w/ the weight.

wetspirit,

I have some friends that live there in Denair. I used to eat at the taco trucks in the middle of town all of the time. Small world. Very small town.

Re:GMC 6.0L burned me bad

the 8.1 is a great motor, the allison behind eats a ton of it up (i believe it's in the 30% range).

my best friend and i took his grandfathers 5.3 for a ride while his truck was down. he didn't even floor it and it went like a mother... i was very impressed how small/mid-sized V8 has that much torque for the way it's outfitted. i can't imagine what the 6.0 is like.

Re:GMC 6.0L burned me bad

Yup,,I have the 4.8l in my K1500, it's 10 less hp than the 5.3l. Off the line it has marginal power, but the mid and high end are pretty impressive for a lil V8. I tow a trailer very frequently and I can tell you it is no CTD. My 2000 Ram would yank the snot out of that trailer thru all ranges. No comparison.
