Question 94 12v. starts fine, chatters and dies under load

hi my 94 dodge will start and idle fine, but when i try to get it up to speed, i get a chattering sound from the engine compartment and i start to lose power. if i lift my foot at the first sign of the chattering, she will usually stay running for a time. if i step down on the accelerator, she will continue to bog until i lift my foot, at which time the motor continues to try to wind for a few more seconds, then the rpms will drop and the truck will die. this happens with a warm or cold engine. do i have injector/lift pump problems?? i changed the fuel filter and cleaned the prefilter after the first time, and i've been running truck stop fuel, blended to 40 below (iowa) ANY suggestions would be appreciated!! thanks~

I'd try the overflow valve, if you haven't replaced it already it's probably due anyway. Seems like its not holding any pressure to me. Do a search for "Overflow Valve" And you'll find the number of Marty Tomkins, it only costs $30. You should be able to take yours apart and stretch the spring out to get by until yours arrives.

Try tying the solenoid plunger up. However, sounds like the OF valve has a broken spring is the "chatter" is like a lifter sound.

shutoff solenoid worked fine.... new OFV made things a lot worse. had a different size inner orafice than the one that came out, new one was a lot smaller. I am now DOA and looking for some answers....

Get the correct OF valve. Some of the valves are one piece, some are two. I believe tha the new ones are two piece, but that may be backward.

Did you put the new OF valve in the right place? Some folks have mistakenly installed them in the pump inlet where they fit perfectly and work pooly.
I've noticed no difference between the one and two piece valves.

Oil fill cap is the object lower left

hi all,

turns out i had the right OF v, they had just changed the design a little. the old one checked out fine, so its back in. shut off solenoid is fine, check. fuel lines all look tight and dry, check. fuel heater is intact and functioning was a little loose, but cleaned and tightened back up, check. listening to the "chatter" again today, definitely sounds like the injection pump, but doesn't sound like a stuck plunger, it sounds like they are all chatterin. when i push the rubber thumb primer i can hear air escaping, that shouldn't happen should it?????

Sure it didn't mistakenly get filled with gasoline or has this been going on for a while?

quite sure it wasn't gas. this first started about a month or so ago, but it usually would come out of it in a day or so. not so this time.

Well, I will bet on one of the rubber fuel lines sucking air...no sign of a leak, but air gets in. Try pressurizing the tank and then looking for the leak by ear.

You certainly seem to have tried everything.
