Exclamation 2003 Ram "Lamp Out"

My dad is driving his loaded CTD (03) to California from Bentonville Arkansas.

As he drives, he hears a ding, then the "Lamp Out" dummy light comes on. He has pulled over and done an inspection trying to find a burnt bulb. Appearantly, the "Lamp Out" indicator comes on intermitently. It could even possibly be related to rough patches of highway.

Please help him out. The ding is driving him crazy and it isn't going to be a long drive if you know what I mean!

Thanks!

This is from the 2004 shop manual:

Each time the cluster receives a lamp out indicator
lamp-on message from the FCM indicating that an
inoperative headlamp (low or high beam), turn signal
lamp, or brake lamp (excluding Center High
Mounted Stop Lamp [CHMSL]) circuit has been
detected, the lamp out indicator is illuminated. The
indicator remains illuminated until the cluster
receives a lamp out indicator lamp-off message from
the FCM or until the ignition switch is turned to the
Off position, whichever occurs first.

Sounds like he should check the high and low beams, turn signals, brake lamps except the center one.

Good luck.

If it's still under warranty (or even if it isn't) I would take it by a Dodge dealership along the way. It could be he has a false lamp-out indicator problem and I think a TSB addresses that.

Could be caused by a poor lamp connection. I would suggest unplugging and then replugging all the lamps. Paying extra attention to the rear lights.

I'll bet he has a problem in one of his taillight modules. I had the exact same problem and that is what was identified by the repair shop. New modules on both sides, no more problems. Several other people with 03's have had the same problem.
