Intermittent "Lamp Out" Dash Light & Chime

I have an '03 & last weekend the "Lamp Out" chime & dash light started coming on very intermittently.

The chime comes on much more than the "Lamp Out" light does & there is no pattern to it. Sometimes, the chime will work once then a couple of times & then around 10 times, in a row. The light will only come on about 20% of the time in conjunction with the chime.

I've checked the truck lights & everything seems to be working.

There seems to be no pattern to these events. Sometimes, you can go 45 minutes without the light or chime coming on then all hell will break loose for maybe 10 minutes. Can't figure it out.

Any of you had this problem & know what the solution is?

I'd like to gather as much info. as possible before approaching the dealer.

Thanks.

It could be the rear taillight assembly I have had both sides replaced on mine already. They appear to work but the connections get burnt. The ding and blink of the light usually happened while towing over bad roads..

I had a similar situation with mine a few months ago...I took the tail lamp assemblies out and put dielectric grease in all the connections...I have not had a problem since.

yeah the contacts get a bit burnt/grimy. New bulbs with a dab of grease and you should be fine. I keep a screwdriver and bulbs in my glove box because the dinging will drive you nuts on the interstate.

Been there done that. The truck is telling you that a bulb is about to go bad.
