Well, here's the story. In 1999 dad bought the truck in my sig from a local business that had used it to pull a goose neck trailer around South Dakota delivering drums of oil. At that time it had 352,000 miles on it & looked almost like new.

The truck was chosen because several friends & I, including a Ford mechanic had recommended Dodge as the best diesel trucks. He was looking for a stick shift 2wd, but found this truck for a very good price.

After buying the truck, he did his standard once over & rebuilt the differentials. They were due for bearings at 350,000 which is normal according to all the local mechanics familiar with them.

Forward to 2006 when he buys a 2006 Megacab Diesel right off the lot. I get a phone call asking if i want to come up & get that truck. At that time it had 415,000 miles on it. Who's gonna turn down a free vehicle in good condition???

I guess the honest truth is I drive a Cummins Dodge because it was free, in good condition & does the job . . .
I have to admit, using a 3/4 ton Diesel 4x4 truck to drive around town every day is like driving thumb tacks with a sledge hammer though.

I bought it for towing and hauling for my business.

I've had past experience with them all, but preferred the Cummins specs and "feel" for pulling.

568,000 miles on three trucks. 96, 2000, and now the 2006. visited the dealer
twice with the 2000 for a map sensor and a crankshaft position sensor. Thats it.

My son has the 96. I sold the 2000 to a friend who has had no problems yet.

I drove all the ones before 96. 7.3's 6.2's and 5.7's. Nothing runs like the Cummins. I think everyone already said that.

cummins>dodge

I grew up on fords. then i started fixing fords and said to myself i want manual everything. hahahaha. well not everything. after driving a kenworth for a few years i got tired of putting my foot through the floor every time i got in my personal truck. so i needed a manual tranni, got tired of chasin wires, need locking hubs or at least something that was easy to trace and didnt run back to an ECM or some other little black box of doom.

went looking at trucks recently, couldnt find anything that would replace my 12v. 500 miles of wire and at least 3 black boxes of doom and more lights then my xmas tree. no new gauges though, ud think that theyd give u the gauges ud need instead of the gauges that prove the engines working. though with all the sound proofing who would know anyways.

would i buy a ford again. sure. then id gut it and build the truck the i want. i could say the same for dodge. though the tear down would be less extreme. at least it still comes with a manual tranni and transfercase shifter.

the dodge i have is probably the dodge ill keep. till it dies then ill just have a cummins, that will run the next victim into the ground.

the greenies say my truck is dirty but i havent seen anything built in the last 5 years that gets 20mpg, even with 500Ibs of EPA sanctioned "requirements".

conclusion: CUMMINS, dodge cause im to lazy to do an engine swap and spend the next 2 years jimmy riggin my truck every time it breaks.

I had an 04 Dmax for four years and bought my Dodge because I wanted a lifted dually. I have always been a fan of the cummins. I've had my Dodge for three months now and have done a lot of upgrades to it and absolutely love the truck. It has better performance than my Dmax did hands down.

I had a couple '79 Chevys and then got an '88 Ford F350 with a 7.3 IDI engine. Next truck was a '92 Dodge W250 12 valve. Drove it off the lot brand new. Thirteen years and over 250,000 miles later, I went brain dead and traded it in on a used '04 F250 6.0 Ford. I can't say I've had any bad luck with the Ford. All issues were covered by the warranty. Almost a month ago I bought the most awesome truck I've ever owned, a 2008 Dodge 3500 4x4. The 6.7 is on it's way to a full emissions delete and I expect to have this truck a very long time. I bought it because of the Cummins, first and foremost, but I can't stop looking at the truck either! The style of it is pure eye candy to me. The performance is nothing short of amazing! I think I could pull my 12,000lb trailer with the Ford hooked to the back with the parking brake on, and not even notice it! I'm lovin' everything about this truck! Even my kids like it. They always want to ride in the "monster truck"!
